Internet Safety

The Internet is a great tool, an endless source of information; some of it good, some of it not so good. The Internet can also be a place of hidden dangers. Visit these Websites to learn what you can do to help your children learn to be safe and savvy users of the Internet:

• Kaboose Kids & Internet Safe Surfing Guide
• Kaboose presents an in-depth article about the Internet that sets out to educate parents about it, the benefits and challenges users find there, and the things that they need to know to teach their children how to use the Internet safely and effectively.  Information is broken down into easy-to-read, well-organized sections such as, “Surfing,” “ Emailing,” and “Tools,” with each section providing valuable information that is easily understandable.

• The ConnectSafely Website is full of information on how kids & teens can stay safe online.  The website includes a discussion forum where people discuss issues involved with safe surfing.
• 4kids.org
• This Website was created and is maintained by a variety of people including educators, artists, writers, tech specialists, and students.  It is full of fun things to do online, and learn while you do them!  Especially for kids.  Make sure that you visit the Safe Surfing section of the site at 4kids.org/safesurf
• Web Surfing Safety from FamilyFun.com
• FamilyFun presents a collection of five strategies parents can employ to help their children stay safer online.
• The Illinois Public Library's NetSafe Program
• Articles and tips for safe surfing and blogging. We have the bookmarks that ILA printed up in the LMS Media Center. Come by to get one of each!
