The GCBA Program for 2007 - 2008
Well, summer is half over and I've started thinking about the new school year. I'm reading my fourth award nominee book, The City of Ember. I'm only on page 43 so far, but it promises to be an interesting book. The city relies on electric lights for all of their light, and the lights are beginning to flicker and go out periodically!! When the lights go out, it is totally pitch black! Furthermore, as far as they can tell, nothing exists past where the city's lights end. I can't wait to see what this place is all about, and I'm anxious to read the sequels - prequels ? - I'm not sure which but there are two other titles referenced in the front of the book and they seem to be related to this one.
The other books that I have read so far are Bella at Midnight, The Fairies of Nutfolk Wood, and Deliver us From Normal. I'm not sure that I can tell you which one is my favorite, or that I want to tell you my favorite! I want you to read them and tell me what you like about each one! I'll be writing posts about them all, maybe next week. So far I'm just reading and writing my booktalks so I can tell you all about them when we get back to school. Hopefully I will have read them all by then!
When you come to school for open house, be sure to visit the media center and see the GCBA display. But don't wait until then to start reading, you can visit the GCBA website to see the titles of this year's nominees. After you have the list of titles, you can search for the books in the Georgia Pines Library Catalog. Search for the title and then click on the "Choose a library to search" link (top right of page); find East Central Georgia Regional Library System on the list and click on the arrow beside it, then choose Columbia County Library. This will let you see how many copies of the book the library has and how many are available; if you have a library card you can place a hold on the book so it will be waiting for you when you go to pick it up! What a great system!
In your email tell me that you have read and that you agree to abide by the blog's rules. Then I will send you an invitation to join the blog. You will have to reply to my invitation - that's all - then you will be able to write your own posts about the nominee books that you have read and you will also be able to comment on the posts that other people have made. They will be visible on the blog once I have read your posts and approved them.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and -- read something wonderful!
