The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
Well, I finally got around to finishing The City of Ember, and I really enjoyed it! I don't want to give anything away, but it is pretty exciting. I think of it as a kind of Science-Fiction/Future Reality novel, without and space ships. In fact life Ember is very similar to the life we experience -- almost -- except that the supply depot is running out of canned goods and light bulbs, and the generator is starting to malfunction, and the city is experiencing more and more blackouts!
The story is about Lina and Doon, two of the kids who live in Ember, and about the difficulty the citizens of Ember are experiencing. The Mayor of the city doesn't seem worried, in fact, he keeps telling people that everything is fine, that the blackouts caused when the generator stops working are nothing to be concerned about.
You really need to read this book and find out if Lina and Doon can help the people of Ember!
Enjoy it! -- Mrs. I
